Robert Morris, fresh off their first win looks to take make it two in a row tonight as they take on the Towson Tigers. Towson –the host of this two game tournament– defeated Stony Brook last night in the opening game with ease. They have a win over George Mason of the A10 on their resume, as well as a narrow loss to Maryland on the road, in overtime.
The Tigers are a six point favorite per-Ken Pom. They sit at 131st in the Kenpom rankings, compared to RMU’s 296th ranking. This would indeed be an impressive W for the Colonials if they could pull it out.
Last night RMU got 16 points from Isaiah Still in route to their first win. They lead by as many as 22 in the game, but went ice cold for a 12 minute stretch and let Hampton cut the lead to single digits before making the needed shots to win it 62-48. All night, RMU dominated on the defensive end. It was nice to see the offensive struggles not effect the defensive performance.
“In the first half we moved the ball and got a lot of clean looks at the basket,” Andy Toole said postgame. “We really did a nice job of moving the ball, making the extra pass in order to get a better shot. In the second half I thought we got a little passive and were too predictable.”
Matty McConnell got his first start and was fantastic all night long. He only scored two points, but played fantastic defense, started many scoring opportunities, and finished the game with a plus 23. He tallied six rebounds, two steals, and two assists. I would expect him to start again tonight, and hopefully the shots will start falling.
