Colonials release 2016/17 schedule

We all now finally know who Robert Morris will be playing in the 2016/17 schedule, as the Colonials released their schedule via Twitter. The full schedule can be accessed here: Colonials Schedule

A few highlights. One, Robert Morris will open up against Andy Toole’s alma mater –Penn– on November 11th. This season the Colonials will host the Quakers at the Sewall Center.

RMU will also play in the Barclays Center Classic. This will include road games at Richmond on 11/20/16, at Kansas State 11/22/16, and a mini four team tournament (11/25 and 11/26/16) with Hampton, Stony Brook, and Towson at Towson University. The Colonials will open with Hampton.

The biggest take away? RMU will host two home games at Consol Energy Center on 12/2/16 vs Duquesne and 12/21/16 vs Buffalo.

This is a first for the Men’s Basketball team, and a very interesting development. Could this mean bigger opponents in the near future? We’ll see. The matchup vs the Dukes could be especially special as the two local rivals battle for bragging rights.

RMU will open up NEC play at Sacred Heart on 12/29/16 and opens up their home conference slate on 1/5/17 against LIU Brooklyn.

Overall, this is a very “Toole” like schedule. A lot of very good mid majors on the slate, and some very challenging road games, like Virginia, Depaul, Richmond, and KSU.

One pleasant surprise? The Colonials only have six true road games (possibly seven if they play Towson in the Barclays Classic). They have five home games, and one neutral site (possibly two if they play Stony Brook in the Barclays Center Classic).

Not bad, compared to years past.

Much more reaction and analysis as the hoops season nears.
